Present and Voting

In 2015, International School of Phnom Penh host a program called Model United Nation. Its my first time participating in it and I felt really nervous for it. But, after I did it, I felt so proud of myself. The event is so serious and I don’t really get use to it yet. I am the delegation of Greece and I am in the Junior General Assembly.

Check out the video below in order to understand more about the difficult procedure in it.

Being A Change Agent_ 2014-2015

Everyday people are making change. The essential vision of Liger Learning Center is changing Cambodia, that’s why Liger Learning Center creates many classes such as Exploration, Advance Enrichment, etc. Change Cambodia is not only the obligation for Liger Learning Center, but for all Cambodian kids and people to change. I create changes in many ways by teaching, helping, sharing, developing, trying new things, other. In the third years of Liger I’ve learn, improve and change many things. That is really encourage me to always creates change. I’ve got five Exploration classes in the third years:

Ecotourism
In Ecotourism we had learn about how important tourism are to our economy. So we went to one of the ecotourism site in Cambodia. Our intension of the trip are to find out about any problems relate to education, health, career, electricity, etc in Chi Phat community. Then the outcome is to recommend some idea of how to improve and solve the concerned. One of the change I’ve made during the trip was teaching some knowledge that I have to the students in Chi Phat community.

Water sanitation
In Water sanitation we had learn about how important sanitation are. We also explore many things about Wetland, Composting Toilet. The outcome of our exploration is to reconstruct the constructed Wetland at our school and to design low cost Composting Toilet . How do we learn? We learned about constructed Wetland and Self- Composting Toilet by interviewed experts from different NGOs and visit the Ministry of Environment, invite guest speakers from different background to share with us about wastewater. We also use technology to research informations in the class too. We tried to go on field trips to visit places that working on these system. One Change I’ve made in the Exploration was designing and reconstruct a new Liger Wetland. It seem the wetland is working well.

Entrepreneurship
In Entrepreneurship group we had learn about many entrepreneur vocabulary and learn about how to becomes a great entrepreneur. Also design and invented our own product and advertise so we can get profits. So we used many apps to design the product. Some people using 123d design and some using blender. One of the change I’ve made through the Exploration was sharing how to use 123d Design and Blender to Logo International School. It seem the students in Logo International School happy and learn a lot from us.

Cambodia Economy
This is the Exploration where we start with going out to many different places to gather the information about different sectors in Cambodia economy. Internet is also one of our important sources. After collect all the data then we transform the information to writing so when can put it in the book. I am the author of agriculture sector such as rice and rubber. One change I and my members made is that we had published our first Cambodia Economy which will have in each and every secondary school in Cambodia. So means we help other students all over Cambodia to improve their learning.

Cambodia Economy Book Launch

After the Cambodia Economy book is published, Liger Leadership Academy has set a book launch to introduce this amazing book to the whole world. I am one of the author of the book and I wrote mostly in the agriculture sector of Cambodia. During the launch, I was so excited and nervous at the same time. In addition, I had the opportunity to make a speech that express my feeling to this book. I felt so proud of myself that I can be the author in the age of 12.

Here is what I said during the launch:

Good evening ladies and gentlemen!
Hello my name is Somphors. I am 12 years old and I came from Kampong Speu Province. The parts that I was working on is in the agriculture sector that are focusing on rubber and rice.

Today, I would like to share one unique fact about the rice of Cambodia. We all should know that, one of Cambodia rice, Pka Romdoul, had won an award of world’s best rice for 3 years in a row (2011-2013.) In addition, I believe that, in the next 5 to 10 year, the agriculture sector in Cambodia is going to increase a lot due to a better understanding of farming, better mechanization, and better irrigation system.

Finally I want express and say that I am really proud of myself and my incredible, marvelous, stupendous friends and teacher who were involved with writing the book. The book was successfully published because our group and the whole Liger community who put a lot of effort and determination on writing, translating, and editing. So I want to say thanks to the whole Liger community who is here today to celebrate with us. I really enjoy collaborating with my friends to collect data and put it in the book. For me, writing the book is not easy at all but I appreciate the opportunity that I have and enjoy it, then I started to observe my knowledge has increasing day by day. It’s my pleasure and I really happy to be part of the book.

The Preservation Of Bunong Culture

Almost all countries of the world are existing minorities, including Cambodia as well. There are approximately twenty indigenous minorities living in Cambodia, which most of them inhabit the Northeast and East. In this
exploring project, we will basically study about Bunong people who is one of the Cambodian indigenous minorities. Students will conduct cultural studies, particularly their culture, belief, lifestyle, interaction, tradition, right, living situation and so on. In this research, students will partly focus on the present issues applying influences over their living conditions. The faith, which is a crucial component, will be proposed to students to explore as it is supposed to be a fascinating topic and different from Khmer majorities. Also, we will find out how they are able to preserve their cultural traditions even it’s currently under the management of government authorities. Increasingly, we will have a field trip to Mondulkiri, where Bunong communities are situated in, to
discover directly from them by interviewing and seeing obvious aspects surrounding them. The trip will be collaborated with ICSO, which is closely working with indigenous communities in Cambodia. After seven weeks
over the course, students will be able to illustrate their understandings of Bunong people and be aware of current issues they are facing, so they can find some solutions to cope with those. Students will publish a book
with photographs, that will be described, they captured as their final product of the exploration to share with government schools in Cambodia, as well as the world. Additionally, they will have practiced with learning outcome skills such as interviewing, presentation, computer development and experienced learning outside the classroom and expertise with photographs.

Renewable Energy in Cambodia Description

In our Exploration class we had three things to work on. The first area was the solar system. The solar system is a resource that can create the energy from the sun. Solar has four types: solar panel, solar cooker, solar water heater and solar lamp. A solar panel is the solar thing that creates the energy to run the electricity. A solar cooker is the solar thing that creates the energy for cooking. A solar water heater is the solar thing the creates the energy to turn the normal water to the hot water. A solar lamp is the solar thing that creates the energy to light the house if that house doesn’t have the electricity. The next thing that we learned about was the biodigester. A biodigester is a natural system that can create biogas by using poo from the animals. Cow poo is the best. It has a lot of benefits. Example: (1) saving the money, (2) healthier than using firewood, (3) save a tree. The last thing that we learned was about hydroelectricity. Hydroelectricity is a thing that creates the energy by using water. It usually is built over the river. The biggest dam in the world is in China. Our goal was to make Cambodians know that all of these things can create energy. Also we wanted them to use these three things because they are good and can save a lot of money. We also had a trip too. The trip was to go to Kampong Speu. Our target was to install two biodigesters. We install them in Camkids and the orphanage called HAP because we wanted to make them easy instead of using the firewood. Both of the biodigesters cost $1100. When we went to to Kampong Speu we also taught some students too. We also slept at Kampong Speu too. We had good days when we were in Kampong Speu.

Crisis Management Exploration

In our crisis Exploration we learned a lot of things that happen outside in the environment. Crisis is the bad thing that happens to people and is unsafe to people. Example: the cars are crashing or the train is falling. We learned about what is a natural disaster. Natural disasters are caused by nature. Natural disasters are: earthquakes, avalanches, and storms, for example. Then we talked about a volcano. A volcano is the mountain that has magma inside. When it is erupting out, the magma will turn to lava. Lava can make islands when it touches the cold place and it turns to the rock. Crisis management is how the aid workers help people when there is a crisis. One way they help is by evacuating people away. Example: when it has a flood, aid workers evacuate people out to the safe place. We also took a trip to share with the students at the government school at Takhmao City. We chose this school because this is the old school that two Liger students have learned at before. We taught the students who were in grades 5 and 6. We shared some things that we learned like floods, storms, earthquakes, and avalanches. The students werevery smart to answer the questions and understand the information.
